Marc Chaussidon is a CNRS Research Director, seconded since 2016 to serve as Director of the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP). His research focuses on the formation and early evolution of the Solar System as well as that of the early Earth. To address these questions, he studies variations in the isotopic compositions of extraterrestrial rocks and ancient terrestrial rocks, investigating them at the micrometer scale.
He co-founded and co-led, until 2014 when he moved to IPGP, the INSU-CNRS national ion microprobe facility at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, where he was recruited as a CNRS research scientist in 1988 following a PhD at the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine and an engineering degree from the École Nationale Supérieure de Géologie de Nancy. His research achievements were recognized with the CNRS Silver Medal in 2002 and the award of a first ERC Advanced Grant in 2008.
