How do planets and planetary systems form and evolve?

We investigate the formation and evolution of terrestrial and exoplanetary systems by combining IPGP’s expertise in investigations of extraterrestrial samples, experimentation, and modeling with AIM’s simulations of molecular cloud collapses. Our teams employ advanced multi-messenger techniques, including spectroscopy with MIRI on JWST (AIM), neutrino detection (APC/IPGP), and studies on volcanic and atmospheric processes (IPGP) to analyze exoplanet atmospheres and internal structure and dynamics. We aim to understand (exo)planets structure, composition, and activity (including magmatism, tectonics, hydrothermalism, hydrosphere, etc.), using Earth as reference. With observations from new lunar and asteroid missions (HERA, RAMSES), alongside traditional telescope data, we aim to enhance our understanding of planetary bodies within our solar system and beyond, guiding future explorations.
